Enlisted Soldiers WW1 – Shire of South Gippsland, Richard Jones

Richard Jones will  talk about the soldiers who enlisted from the Shire of South Gippsland during WW1 at 8pm  following the Foster and District Historical Society’s monthly meeting, 7.30pm on October 2, 2018 at Crawford Hall.

Entry to the Hall is via the council car park. A light supper and hot drinks are available after the meeting. A gold coin donation is requested from non-members.

Members,their guests, and the general public are welcome.

  1. Please note that there are inaccuracies in the “lest we forget” article in The Mirror of 3/10/2018 (page 21). The info on ‘Private Gordon Ferguson Legge’ appears to come from an article I wrote on my three relatives who fought in WWI. Private George (not Gordon) Ferguson Legge was my great-uncle, the son of my great-grandfather General James Gordon Legge. He did not come from Toora. The only local connection is that I was the local reporter when I wrote the article for The Mirror of 22/4/2015. I would be interested to know where the info “while attending another wounded man at Beaurevoir. He had just been selected for the next Officers’ training school by his unit commander” came from as I have never heard (or written) that. It would be good if corrections could be made for posterity. I am not sure who submitted the article but I am happy to discuss.
